![]() We take Westies from owners who can no longer care for them or want them rehomed. That’s a lot of dogs, but it is only a proportion of the Westies who are rehomed via other channels, or put to sleep, every year. We rescue and rehome an average of sixty Westies every year. Westie Rescue Ireland was set up in 2005 by Maureen Byrne, in response to the increasing numbers of Westies being abandoned and surrendered into dog pounds around the country at the time. ![]() Westie Rescue Ireland was originally based in County Louth, but has since moved to the Midlands to County Offaly. I will continue to support all dogs and adopters who are still on our books. ![]() Thank you to everybody who has helped in any way over the years: our wonderful volunteers, fosterers, transporters, kennels everybody who has donated their time or money over the years, or who has taken part in fundraising events the vets and vet staff who have supported us and helped us out and of course, the many fantastic adopters who have taken in Westies in need with a heart and a half, giving each of them the lives they truly deserved! After more than 20 years of rescuing and rehoming over 500 Westies in Ireland, this seems an opportune time to me to hang up the boots, and wind the rescue up. This has meant that in recent years, very few dogs have become available for adoption. Registered Charity Number: 20081751Īs many of you will have noticed, Westies are no longer as popular as they used to be. Home Welcome to Westie Rescue Ireland!
